this song is polarizing for the band. it has what we think is the worst title, and also was by far the most frustrating song to record. the song is so slow and fragile that the most simple mistake would be completely apparent. it's also the longest song, which made re-recording the song extremely tedious. we tried recording the song probably 30 times, and we simply could not get it right. towards the end of all of the attempts, david became hysterically flustered as he simply couldn't hold down the barre chord he needed to on a specific fret due to the action/shape of his finger. this would result in a certain note buzzing at the very end of the song, making it so we had to record the entire song again. it was an arduous process, but the final result turned out to be probably our most favorite song.
james played piano over the track while it was raining, and if you listen closely enough, you can hear the rain that was hitting the building. mike also had the idea to add some delay effects to the song, which really helped fill it out and was a surprisingly elch-sounding thing to do.
as for the title, {sheena} was the name on a weird, medieval-looking chair that was at glacial pace, and so we used it as a temporary title just for the convenience of being able to refer to it during the session. however, we never came up with a real name, and so {sheena} ended up sticking, for better or for worse (worse). david has thought about changing the song name to something along the lines of "{mike davis is my best friend}", or "{i love mike davis}", but we'll see. maybe this song will eventually change its name, but for now i guess it will stay as {sheena}.
